OtterBox Canyon Place
Location: Fort Collins, CO
Size: 54,000 SF
Born out of a garage in Northern Colorado, OtterBox grew into one of the world’s leading phone case manufacturers and was looking to expand. This multi-award winning, five-story new build was specifically designed to house OtterBox’s engineering teams tasked with developing new products. Mimicking the engineers’ technical and creative roles, the design builds on a series of tessellations, puzzles and interactive collaboration zones, all while subtly incorporating the company’s iconic branding. Variations of the ‘O’ and ‘X’ are highlighted in the space, symbolic of both the company name and the geometric shapes they represent. Parallels of these shapes are seen throughout between carpet patterns and ceiling designs above, furniture shapes and upholstery and graphics throughout. Lighting is recessed to create a positive/negative effect, indicative of the engineering concepts driving product design. Color coded floors identify team variations but are also highly adaptable to support the company’s growth. This space provides a wellness room, ping pong tables and a 500sf bike room accessed with a garage door as a nod to the company’s startup roots. Every floor is complete with a community kitchen, collaboration and storage spaces, whiteboard and chalkboard adorned walls and dedicated workstations. Conference rooms display carefully designed graphics to provide both visual interest and privacy. The creative, vibrant and intentional design successfully supports the engineers who thrive there.
