Galvanize Fort Collins

Location: Fort Collins, CO

Size: 14,000 SF

In the heart of historic Old Town sits Galvanize’s multi-award winning campus and home to a highly saturated entrepreneurial ecosystem.  Originally built in 1904 and listed on the national and state historic registry, great care was taken in renovating this two-story building down to its exposed structure.  Extensive foundational and structural work was also done to replace the front façade, raise and level the west side of the building, remove the multi-level ground floor changes and create a new open mezzanine.  Maintaining a physical separation but visual connection between the front public space and members only private space was key and resulted in a grand, two-story glass element known as ‘the bridge’.  On the public side, visitors have access to a café, lounge and rentable conference space lit by ample natural light.  Passing under the bridge, members enter a combination of coworking and collaboration spaces.  Flexible infrastructure and mobile furniture is used throughout to support Galvanize’s multipurpose spaces.  Design intent focused on a juxtaposition of the existing historical value with a modernized function.  Wooden beams were salvaged and repurposed throughout, including the café and reception desk millwork and a large steel I-beam was exposed and converted into an interactive community board.
